1988 The Third Coast

Other News: I'm just settling in from my weekend on the 'third coast,' Nashville. Between catching up on missed belly rubs with my fluffy friend, Brie, I want to send out some of my initial enthusiasm over this new found city. Having never been, I was first impressed with my flight down, in that one out of every two folks on the airplane carried-on a guitar (such talent!).  I stayed in a cosmopolitan yet residential district called 12 South - where the streets are lined with historic bungalows and Victorians (together at last). I walked by Dolly Parton's recording studio every morning on my way to retrieve coffee. Coincidentally, the front of her studio is also the site of a temporary, "Before I Die,"  wall (one of my favorite public art projects) by contemporary artist Candy Chang. The main street also has all the area's best restaurants and shops. Rumor has it Gwyneth Paltrow shops at the custom made jean shop - Imogene and Willie. Housed in an old gas station, the jeans are customized to fit - they start at $300, so, I bought two - totally kidding - I bought three - I kill myself, seriously, I'm going to stick to shrinking my department store jeans in the dryer in hopes of that custom look. My workshop at Warehouse 521 was full (17 participants) and I couldn't be more thrilled with the facility and my delightful host, Jeanie (that's her when you click on the 521 link) and everyone who took the class. The studio is in an old piano warehouse and fit right in with the overall creative vibe in Nashville. I will post more photos of the workshop soon. Everyone was friendly and hospitable - I also got to visit the Kandinsky exhibit (thank you again, Holly) at the Frist  and was merrily aired out before my flight this morning with  a hike at Radnor Lake (thank you, Kim and Jeanie). It's been awhile since I've visited someplace brand new and I look forward to spending more time in Nashville.
