1375 Tropical (hangover)

sold This month's GJWP challenge painting topic is "Tropical." When I think of the word tropical I automatically think of one my favorite works by Jonathas de Andrade, Tropical Hangover, in which he created visuals for a vacation journal he found in the trash. still life, acrylic, 4" x 4"

1363 Rotate

In this morning's painting class we painted from photos - upside down. . . I paint this way often (that explains a lot, you are probably thinking!) - but mostly if I am using a photo for reference, I turn the painting and photo upside down and paint that way until about the last 25% (whatever that means). And always on the bigger canvases - I take them off the wall, put them on the floor, turn them upside down and then sideways. . . and sometimes I sneak up on them (shhh). . . still painting, 4" x 4" $60 click here to purchase

1358 Sashay

sold My reward for shoveling yesterday was a walk in the snow (yes, that very same snow I did not want to remove, I then wanted to spend more time in - go figure). Brie sashayed along as Brie does, pausing for snow snacks and the occasional wing (paw) de-icing  - still life, acrylic, 6" x 6"

1356 Snug

sold The storm has passed leaving behind about two feet of snow. We lost power for 24 hours but I received unexpected door to door dinner service (thank you J, D & T). There was only one place in town open and I relished in the long wait for a table (heat!). Everything was okay here for me, no damage, just cold - and the power came back on while we were at dinner. Tomorrow I shovel. still life, acrylic, 6" x 6"

1353 Perched

Twenty daily paintings are now on display until June 4th at the South Shore Conservatory in the Dorothy and Robert Palmer Gallery. There will be an opening reception on Friday, March 22nd, 6-8.  Other News: Below is  Duane Keiser's Oddment #308 - it's the top painting, balanced on another. I tried gluing it to the wall, which would have worked, had I stood there for half a day waiting for it to dry. Although these two make a curious pair,  I'll be heading down to pick out a frame from South Street Gallery for #308 very soon. still life, acrylic, 6" x 6" $100 click here to purchase

1352 Gentle

sold Yesterday I attended a lecture given by artist Linda Bond (click to view her website) at Brandeis University on the subject of the "Artist as Advocate for Social Justice." She talked about many artists from Ellen Gallagher to Ai Weiwei to William Kentridge to Daniel Heyman before discussing her own work. Bond is unique in that she works in many mediums and often does large scale drawings with gunpowder. She described some of her own work as a "gentle confrontation. . . " still life, acrylic, 6" x 6"

1348 Collage Challenge

sold Collage was this month's Girls Just Wanna Paint challenge. I've been experimenting with collage per recommendation of my mentor, so I thought it would make for good challenge topic. In this collage, I decided to utilize my daily paintings and my original paint can, Photoshop - the result, 30 days of daily paintings, layered together to make one collaged composite. above, still life, acrylic, 6" x 6"- below, '30 Days,' digital collage
